Monday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers and NHL Playoffs Open Forum

It took two more overtime games, which is not at all surprising, to the end the first round of the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Clarke MacArthur goal 6:30 into the extra session propelled the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins in Game 6. The Senators won the series four games to two and will meet the New York Rangers next.

The Washington Capitals got a pair from Marcus Johansson to offset an Auston Matthews goal, giving the Caps a hard-fought 4-2 series win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Johansson’s winner came at 6:31 of overtime. The Capitals will face the Pittsburgh next, with the winner likely to be named the clear favorite to claim the Cup.

The second round of the playoffs will begin on Wednesday (schedule here) with the two Western Conference games. The two Eastern Conference series will start on Thursday.
