Turnabout is fair play, it’s been said, so no surprises as Calgary’s big-league team handed out a few tough lessons to a very rookie-laden Florida squad.
The Flames had gone the rookie route a night earlier, having their rumps given to them on a platter by the Isles; tonight was their turn to revel in mixed-league glory.
David Booth scored unassisted to open the gates in the first; the floor fell out soon after, as the Cats were exposed as the one-line team they employed. Given that names such as Matthias, Repik, and Ellerby were handed judicious amounts of ice team, one can only hope they took away more than they gave (admittedly, against a full-blown Wester Conference championship favorite).
Stephen Weiss scored in the second, but the game was already out of reach. Dennis Seidenberg gobbled minutes, though not nearly what Ville Koistinen logged: 21:36…and by the way, he was +1. Something to remember…
Shots favored Calgary by ten: 36-26. Cats goaltender Tomas Vokoun went the distance, stopping 31.
