NHL Playoffs: Bruins roll over Maple Leafs

Brad Marchand scored a goal and added an assist in the Boston Bruins dominating 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Charlie Coyle, Danton Heinen and Patric Bergeron also scored and Tuukka Rask stopped 30 shots for the Bruins, who evened the series at a game apiece. Nazem Kadri came up with the only Toronto goal.

Brooks Orpik beat Petr Mrazek 1:48 into overtime as the Washington Capitals bested the Carolina Hurricanes by a 4-3 count to take two games to none lead in the series. Niklas Backstrom, T.J. Oshie and Tom Wilson scored for the Capitals while Lucas Wallmark, Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal lit the lamp for the Hurricanes. Braden Holtby made 25 saves to get the win.

Craig Smith drove home a rebound five minutes into overtime to give the Nashville Predators a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars. Jamie Benn opened the scoring early in the second period and former Florida Panthers forward Rocco Grimaldi tied the game later in the frame. Pekka Rinne stopped 22 shots while Ben Bishop turned away 40 in the goaltender’s duel. The series is now tied and will head to Dallas for Game 3.

J.T. Compher tied the game with 2:30 remaining in regulation and Nathan MacKinnon scored 8:27 into overtime to give the Colorado Avalanche a 3-2 upset win over the Calgary Flames, tying the series at a game apiece. Matt Nieto scored the other Colorado goal while Rasmus Andersson and Sean Monahan scored for the Flames.

Panthers stuff

Aleksi Heponiemi scored twice, including the winner 1:34 into overtime, as Karpat edged HIFK by a 2-1 count to take a three games to two lead in the Liiga semifinals.

Serron Noel set up Cole Resnick’s game-opening goal in the Oshawa Generals 3-1 win over the Niagara IceDogs. Noel finished the game with one shot on goal and a +1 rating. The Generals took a 3-2 lead in the OHL Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Owen Tippett registered five shots on goal, but was held off the scorer sheet in the Saginaw Spirit’s 6-2 loss on home ice to the Ste. Sault Marie Greyhounds, Saginaw still leads  has a 3-2 series lead in the OHL Western Conference semifinals. Tippett finished the game with a -2 rating.
