NHL Postseason Caterwaul: Bruins lay waste to Hurricanes to take two-game lead

Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk scored two goals in the Boston Bruins 6-2 Mother’s Day Massacre of the Carolina Hurricanes at TD Gardens. Jake DeBrusk, Connor Clifton, David Backes and Danton Heinen also scored for the Bruins. Deadline acquisition Charlie Coyle and Torey Krug dished out three assists as Boston led by six before Justin Williams and Teuvo Teravainen scored in the second half of the third period. Petr Mrazek gave up all six goals on just 25 shots. The Hurricanes, who are undefeated at home during the playoffs, will need to turn things around in Raleigh or this series is going to be over quick.

Evgenii Dadonov scored two more goals in Russia’s 5-0 win over Austria yesterday. Dadonov finished the game with three shots on goal and a +1 rating in 15:58 TOI as Russia moved to 2-0 in Group B. Dadonov has scored four times on six shots in the tournament.

Frank Vatrano got more than two shifts and registered a goal and an assist in Team USA’s 7-1 rout of France. Vatrano put the U.S. up by two 5:48 into the first period and drew the primary assist on the game’s final goal by Colin White with 5:39 left in regulation. Vatrano finished with two shots on goal and a +3 rating in 10:44 TOI.

Vincent Praplan set up Nico Hischier’s game-winning goal 6;21 into the third period as Switzerland edged Latvia by a 3-1 count. Praplan logged 15:47 of ice time and finished with three shots and a +1 rating and won two of four faceoffs.
