NHL Postseason Caterwaul: Bruins and Blues win to open second round

Hometown boy Charlie Coyle scored with 4:35 left in regulation to tie the game and then bagged the game-winner 5:15 into overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 win over the rusty Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 1 of the series. Marcus Johansson had the primary assist on both goals. The Bruins led 1-0 on Noel Acciari’s shorthanded marker for much of the tilt until Brandon Dubinsky and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored 13 seconds apart in the third period. Sergei Bobrovsky made 34 saves to help keep the Blue Jackets in the game.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored back-to-back goals to snap a one all tie as the St. Louis Blues held off the Dallas Stars for a 3-2 win on home ice in Game 1 of the series. Robby Fabbri opened the scoring and Jordan Binnington made 27 saves for the Blues. Jason Spezza and Jamie Benn got the goals for Dallas.

Panthers prospects

HPK shut out Aleksi Heponiemi and Karpat in Game 3 of the Liiga final in Finland to take a 2-1 series lead. Heponiemi logged 15:35 of ice time and finished the game with a -1 rating.

Owen Tippett and the Saginaw Spirit will the host the Guelph Storm tonight at 7:07 p.m. in Game 5 of the OHL Western Conference final. The Spirit lead the series three games to one. A win will put Saginaw in the championship round against Ottawa.
