Juho Lammikko was part of a stellar defensive effort that saw Finland blank tournament favorite Russia 1-0 in the semifinals at the 2019 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia.
The Florida Panthers forward was on the ice when captain Marko Anttila lit the lamp 10:18 into the second period. Lammikko finished the game with one shot on goal and a +1 rating in 12:53 TOI. He won 9 of the 22 draws he took.
Finnish goaltender Kevin Lankinen, a Chicago Blackhawks prospect, stopped 32 shots.
Evgenii Dadonov logged 17:01 TOI and registered three shots on goal and was on the ice when Anttila scored the games only goal.
Lammikko and the Finns will meet Canada, who crushed the Czech Republic by a 5-1 count, for gold. Dadonov and Russia will face the Czechs for the bronze. So, with Lammikko guaranteed to come home with medal, Dadonov has a good chance, as well.
Canada got goals from Mark Stone, Darnell Nurse, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Kyle Turris and Thomas Chabot before Tomas Zohorna ended Matt Murray’s shutout bid with 6:01 remaining in the game.
