NHL Postseason Caterwaul: Stars work overtime to eliminate Predators

John Klingberg took a crossing pass from Alexander Radulov and scored from the left circle 17:02 into overtime to give the Dallas Stars a series-clinching 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators. Ben Bishop made 47 saves and Pekka Rinne finished with 49 stops in the classic goaltenders’ duel. Nashville took a 1-0 lead on Austin Watson’s first period goal, but the Stars struck back in the second when Blake Comeau beat Rinne. Dallas advances in six games to meet the St. Louis Blues. The Predators were the third division-winner to fall in the first round of the playoffs.

The Carolina Hurricanes scored three times in the third period to beat the Washington Capitals 5-2, forcing a decisive Game 7 on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena. The game was tied at two after the middle frame before Jordan Staal, Justin Williams and Dougie Hamilton lit the lamp in the third. Brett Connolly and Alex Ovechkin scored first period goals for the Capitals, while Warren Foegele and Teuvo Teravainen countered for the upstart Hurricanes.

Owen Tippett scored his 10th goal and 20th point of the OHL playoffs, but his Saginaw Spirit fell by a 5-2 count to the Storm in Guelph on Monday night. Tippett finished the game with six shots on goal and a -1 rating. The Spirit now lead the series two games to one.
