NHL Postseason Caterwaul: Helping hand gives Sharks 5-4 overtime win over Blues

A missed call on a hand pass led to Erik Karlsson’s game-winning goal 5:23 into overtime, giving the San Jose Sharks a 5-4 decision over the St. Louis Blues. The goal was Karlsson’s second of the game. Joe Thornton also scored twice and Logan Couture sent the game to the extra session when he beat Jordan Binnington with 1:01 left in regulation. David Perron was the third player in the tilt to produce a brace and Alexander Steen and Vladimir Tarasenko also lit the lamp for the Blues, who ran off three-straight goals in the second to erase a 3-1 deficit.

Evgenii Dadonov scored twice in undefeated Russia’s 10-0 rout of Italy in Bratislava. Dadonov registered three shots on goal and finished with a +1 rating in 16:30 TOI. The Panthers winger has scored a tournament-leading six goals in four games. Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy only faced 15 shots from the over-matched Italians in posting his second shutout.

Frank Vatrano played 10:31 in Team USA’s 6-3 win over Great Britain in Kosice. Vatrano had one shot on goal and finished with a +1 rating. The Americans are currently in second place in Group A with eight points and will face Denmark next in what could be a key game on Saturday.

Vincent Praplan logged 16:02 of ice time and finished with three shots on goal and +1 rating in Switzerland’s 4-1 win over Norway. The Swiss moved to 4-0 and are tied with Russia atop Group B with 12 points.
