NHL Postseason Caterwaul:  Blues roll over Sharks to take lead in series

Jaden Schwartz produced his second hat trick of the postseason and rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped all 21 shots as the visiting St. Louis Blues rolled to a 5-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. The Blues are now on the verge of their first Stanley Cup appearance since 1970. Vladimir Tarasenko scored the first penalty shot goal in the Original 12 franchise’s playoff history and added two third period assists. Oskar Sundqvist opened the scoring unassisted 5:50 into the opening frame to give the Blues a lead they would not relinquish as Binnington posted his first career postseason shutout.

Frank Vatrano logged 9:50 of ice time in Team USA’s 3-1 win over Germany. The Americans clinched a spot in the quarterfinals with the victory. James van Reimsdyk, Dylan Larkin and Jack Eichel scored the goals and Cory Schneider stopped 24 of 25 shots.

Evgenii Dadonov registered three shots on goal and finished with an even rating in 15:05 TOI in Russia’s 3-0 win over Switzerland. Vincent Praplan, dropped to the fourth line, played 9:16 for Switzerland and finished with one shot on goal and an even rating.
