It’s a beautiful, cloudless 72 degrees outside my window, so we’re gonna blaze through this morning’s updates.

(Don’t all of you north of say, Jacksonville, feel warmer inside after reading that? Bash the South Florida hockey market all you want, but this weather rocks. And the Panthers are a playoff team. Booyah.)

LITTER BOX LINERS

Note to the Post: Now that the Panthers have remained solidly over the regulation-games won vs. regulation-games lost plateau for a few weeks, are we to ascertain that you will be here throughout the remainder of the season, come hell or high water? Or is this sudden re-emergence simply a make-work program for bored Dolphins correspondents gearing up for the Marlins’ spring training? Ya know, just curious.

THE FAR REACHES OF THE BLOGOSPHERE

DIVISIONALLY SPEAKING

Southeast Standings

GP W L OTL PT
Washington 46 29 14 3 61
Florida 44 21 16 7 49
Carolina 46 21 20 5 47
Tampa Bay 45 14 21 10 38
Atlanta 46 16 25 5 37

  • In Buffalo, the Sabres put a fork in Carolina, beating the Hurricanes 3-1 in regulation. A blind man could see the significance of this outcome.
  • The host Caps stuck it to league-leading Boston 2-1. Is there no end to the raw power and dominance of Washington? Let’s hope.
  • The visiting Thrashers absolutely tore up Nashville 7-2. Four days ago Rich Peverley was a Predator. They gave up on him, sending the forward to Atlanta, where he promptly scores three points against his former club./

KEEP AN EYE ON…

No games are scheduled tonight within the Southeast Division, however:

  • NY Rangers @ Pittsburgh, 12:30, NBC-HD. Need I remind anyone the Pens sit one point behind Florida? New York has a new fan…for a few hours. PensBurgh hosts a live chat/open thread. Fun stuff./
