Notes:

Spark plug center Derek MacKenzie is expected to return to the Panthers lineup tonight. Newly acquired Teddy Purcell (groin) will not play and captain Willie Mitchell will probably not be back until next week… Despite dropping five of its last seven, Ottawa is still hanging on in the playoff chase The Senators are just five points behind Detroit for the second wild card spot in the east… With a win and a Boston loss in regulation time to Carolina, the Cats can forge a three-way tie atop the Atlantic Division, tiebreakers notwithstanding.. The once very stingy Panthers have surrendered a whopping 21 goals during its current 1-3-2 slide… Veteran Finn Jussi Jokinen has scored in eight straight games (1G/8A).

NHL.com Preview:

Ottawa’s chances at the Stanley Cup Playoffs were dealt a blow when Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner’s game-tying goal with 0.2 seconds left in the third period led to a 4-3 shootout loss on Monday. “The bottom line is that what happened has happened,” defenseman Dion Phaneuf said. “It’s done, it’s over with, come back to work today. We had a good practice and we prepare for [Thursday].” (More)

Yahoo.com Preview:

”Every point we don’t take advantage of from here is a little bit more frustrating because we’re not making up any ground doing that,” goaltender Andrew Hammond said. ”I think the two words that describe it are disappointing and frustrating.” Hammond had 34 saves making a fourth consecutive start in place of Craig Anderson, who’s expected back from a knee injury sustained Mar. 1 against St. Louis. Anderson has allowed 11 goals over his last three starts after going 6-2-0 with a 1.61 goals-against average over his previous eight. He’s permitted six in three season meetings with the Panthers, including a 2-1 shootout loss at Florida on Dec. 22 in which he compiled 39 saves. (More)
