A new format (again) for this week's roundup. The Rampage still struggle with offense, seven Panther prospects make World Junior camp rosters, and another comes over to North America. All that, a poll and more after the jump.
Oklahoma City 1, San Antonio 0
The Rampage started off the week with a two game series against the AHL's best team, the Oklahoma City Barons. Jacob Markstrom made his AHL return and stopped 28 shots, while allowing only one goal in the third period. The undermanned Rampage were able to limit the Barons to only 29 shots, keeping them to only nine in the first and third periods. Eric Selleck picked up his ninth fighting major in the first period.
San Antonio 2, Oklahoma City 1
Like the night before, the Barons scored only a single goal. Unlike the night the night before, the Rampage scored. The Rampage got off to a great starting, out-shooting the Barons 7-1 in the first seven minutes of play. Michal Repik, playing with his former junior teammates, James Wright and Wacey Rabbit, scored the game's first goal. The trio played on the same line with the with the Vancouver Giants, winning the Memorial Cup in 2007, and both Wright and Rabbit assisted on Repik's third goal of the season. After the Barons tied the game in the third, PTO hero Evan Barlow scored the game winning goal, his third of the season, with Tyson Strachan and Bill Thomas credited with the assists. Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 26 shots, continuing his hot streak into the AHL after being signed last week.
Houston 6, San Antonio 1
Ugly game for the Rampage. The Houston Aeros, minus their starting goaltender, held the Rampage to one lone goal. After allowing three goals in their last four games, the Rampage gave up three in 18 minutes. Garrett Wilson scored his first AHL goal on the powerplay, 31 seconds after the Aeros scored shorthanded to make 2-0, with Barlow and Repik assisting. Dov Grumet-Morris allowed four goals off nine shots and played 24 minutes before being pulled for Jacob Markstrom, who allowed two goals off 11 shots.
Houston 1, San Antonio 0
Jacob Markstrom played another solid game, allowing one goal on 26 shots. The Rampage did out-shoot Houston 33-26, but it wasn't enough to score on the first place Aeros. Rampage have been shutout in their last 125:43 on the road. Before the game, forwards Angelo Esposito, Garrett Wilson, and Joe Devin were all assigned to Cincinnati, and Brian Sutherby has been released from his PTO. Evgenii Dadonov was reassigned to San Antonio on Saturday.
