McKenna stops 29 shots in Pirates 5-1 win over Bridgeport

Mike McKenna made 29 stops and posted his eleventh straight victory in the Portland Pirates 5-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to tie Jhonas Enroth‘s franchise record.

Defenseman Cameron Gaunce (1) notched his first of the season to open the scoring at 3:31 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Greg McKegg and Brett Olson.

Bridgeport countered 8:48 into the middle stanza when Carter Verhaeghe beat McKenna from Taylor Beck and former Panther Bracken Kearns.

Garrett Wilson (6) lit the lamp 1:27 later to quickly put Portland back on top. The power-play goal was set up by Dylan Olsen and McKegg.

McKegg (7) added his third point of the night with a goal at the 3:35 mark of the final frame. Assists were credited to Olson and Wilson.

Rocco Grimaldi sent Shane Harper (6) away for a breakaway goal at 12:21 and Wayne Simpson (3) completed the scoring on an odd-man rush 1:29 later with the helpers going to Chase Balisy and Olsen.

Christopher Gibson took the loss for the Sound Tigers, finishing with 22 saves.

The Pirates 21-13-1 will meet Bridgeport again tonight at Cross Insurance Arena.
