Sound Tigers cool off Pirates with 3-1 win

The Portland Pirates fell to the visiting Bridgeport Sound Tigers by a 3-1 count Friday night at Cross Insurance Arena, ending a three-game winning streak.

After a scoreless first period, Rocco Grimaldi opened the scoring at 6:16 of the second period with his fourth of the season. The power-play goal was assisted by Cameron Gaunce and Rob Schremp.

Sam Brittain had a shutout cooking until Bridgeport’s Taylor Beck bagged a power-play goal at 11:06 of the third period. Beck’s tally was set up by former Panther Bracken Kearns and Jesse Graham.

Beck struck again 4:55 later to put the Sound Tigers on top with the lone assist going to James Wright.

Justin Vaive beat Brittain, from Graham, with 1:53 remaining in regulation to put the game away.

Christopher Gibson made 27 stops to post the win, while Brittain finished with 22 saves and fell to 4-4.

Portland (10-11-1) gets right back at it tonight on home ice with a tilt against the Providence Bruins.
