Pirates blank Wolf Pack 1-0 to finish road trip on winning note

Mike McKenna made 35 saves to lead the Portland Pirates to a 1-0 shutout win over the Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday night at XL Center.

The victory was the Pirates’ 30th of the season and allowed the team to finish off its tough seven-game road trip with a 4-2-1 record. Portland also ended a three-game losing streak to the host Wolf Pack.

Sena Acolatse (5) blasted the game’s only goal by Hartford’s Magnus Hellberg, who finished with 25 stops, at 13:50 of the first period. Acolatse’s even-strength marker was set up by Wayne Simpson and Jonathan Racine.

Portland (30-20-2) maintained possession of third place in the AHL’s Atlantic Division. The Pirates will return to Maine to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday to open a four-game homestand at Cross Insurance Arena.
