Portland completes sweep of Hartford with 3-2 win

The Portland Pirates raised their record to 5-6 with a 3-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday night at Cross Insurance Arena. The Pirates also beat the Wolf Pack on Wednesday.

John McFarland opened the scoring with his fourth of the 2015-16 campaign at 17:09 of the first period. Rob Schremp and Connor Brickley, playing in his second game with Portland, collected the assists.

McFarland and Brickley combined to set up a defenseman Sena Acolatse sixty-one seconds into the second period to put the Pirates up by two.

Hartford got on the board 4:18 later when Adam Tambellini beat Mike McKenna, with the assists going to Marek Hrivik and Chris Summers.

Logan Shaw scored his third goal of the two-game set midway through the middle frame to provide the eventual game-winner. Brett Olson and Shane Harper drew the helpers on Shaw’s fifth. The point was Olson’s first of the season.

The Wolf Pack came up with only got of the third period when Ryan Bourque lit the lamp with the lone assist going to Paul Nehring at 9:05.

McKenna made 23 stops to even his record at 4-4. Mackenzie Skapski took the loss, finishing with 25 saves.

The Pirates will kick off a four-game road trip Sunday afternoon against the Providence Bruins. The Bruins already beaten Portland twice this season.
