Portland Pirates suffer 3-1 loss to Syracuse Crunch

The Portland Pirates dropped a 3-1 decision to the Syracuse Crunch Friday night at Cross Insurance Arena.

Connor Brickley (5) opened the scoring at 4:57 of the first period. The power-play goal was assisted by defensemen MacKenzie Weegar and Cameron Gaunce.

Syracuse’s Yanni Gourde tied the game at the 15:28 mark from Daniel Walcott and Tanner Richard.

The Crunch took the lead with 2:05 left in the second period, when Richard scored his eighth goal with the assists credited to Anthony DeAngelo and Tye McGinn.

Mike Angelidis completed the scoring with an empty-net tally with five seconds left in regulation time.

Crunch goaltender Adam Wilcox stopped 29 shots to post the win, while Sam Brittain made 30 saves for the Pirates.

Portland (31-21-2-1) will host the Providence Bruins tonight to finish off a four-game homestand.
