Preseason Recap: Panthers edge Stars 4-3 in overtime

Defenseman Jacob MacDonald scored 2:30 into overtime on assists from Maxim Mamim and Anthony Greco, to give the Florida Panthers a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars at BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Greco, a long shot prospect making a bid for a roster spot, also set up Derek MacKenzie’s tying goal with 10:37 left in the the third period.

After a scoreless first period, the Panthers took the lead on a power-play goal by Henrik Borgstrom 1:11 into the middle frame. Owen Tippett and Bogdan Kislevich drew the helpers.

Dallas tied the game when Denis Gurianov lit the lamp 43 seconds later with the assists going to Justin Dowling and Reece Scarlett.

Alexander Petrovic gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal at the 2:43 mark.

Devin Shore tied it 2-2 with a power-play goal at 6:00, with the lone assist going to Julius Honka, and Gemel Smith gave the Stars the lead at 17:12.

James Reimer went the distance in goal for the Panthers. Landon Bow and Colton Point split time in the Dallas net.

Roster Cuts

Forwards Jonathan Ang, Sebastian Repo and Paul Thompson and defenseman Ludwig Bystrom have been loaned to Florida’s AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds and are expected to attend Springfield’s training camp.

Goaltender Chris Driedger has been released from his professional try out and is expected to attend Springfield’s training camp.
