Preseason Recap: Panthers rally for 3-2 win over Lightning

Aleskander Barkov scored the game-winning goal with 7:29 left in regulation to cap a three-goal third period rally as the Florida Panthers edged the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena in the first of three straight preseason games between the clubs.

After a scoreless first, the Lightning grabbed a 2-0 lead on goals from Adam Erne and Alex Killorn. J,T. Miller had a hand in setting up both goals. Mathieu Joseph drew the primary assist on Erne’s power-play marker and Steven Stamkos had the primary on Killorn’s goal.

Evegenii Dadonov got a piece of Mark Pysyk soft shot from the point 2:16 into the final frame to start the comeback.

Aaron Ekblad notched a shorthanded goal to tie the tie at the 7:03 mark. The assists on the goal went to Colton Scevoir and Derek MacKenzie.

Dadonov made an amazing move to make things easy for Barkov on the winner. The goal was Barkov’s first of the preseason.

James Reimer got the start and went the distance, finishing with 27 saves on 29 shots.

Look for Rorbert Luongo to be in the net on Thursday and Reimer on Saturday to set up a Luongo start in the season-opener.

Andrei Vasilevskiy took the loss for the Bolts. He finished with the game with 25 stops.

Random numbers

Vincent Trocheck led the Cats with five shots on goal.

The Panthers went 0 for 4 on the power play.

The Lightning went 1 for 4 with the man advantage.

Jonathan Huberdeau was the only Panther to finish with a minus rating.

Julian Melchiori logged 13:01 TOI and had one shot, one hit and finished +1.
