ReCat: Cat On A Hot Ten Roof

Florida put five on the board in Buffalo on Tuesday night to take a 5-1 decision over the Buffalo Sabres.

Jaromir Jagr scored his 14th goal halfway through the first period after some fancy stickwork from linemate Jonathan Huberdeau (the First Star of the game) to open the scoring. His 736th career goal leaves him just five short of Brett Hull for third all-time on the NHL’s leaderboard. He’s also moving up Florida’s career leaderboard, although he’s only currently at number 66, with 20, he should crack the Panthers‘ top 50 before the season closes.

Buffalo capitalized soon into the second period on the power play, when Ryan O’Reilly lit the lamp for the 16th time this season. Derek MacKenzie later re-instituted the one-goal lead with his fourth goal of the season, with assists from Corban Knight and Alex Petrovic. MacKenzie also later earned an assist, one of three Panthers that had one of each for the game.

Florida piled on the pain in the third period with a trio of final frame goals, by Corban Knight (2), Huberdeau (5), and Brandon Pirri (EN, 9). Roberto Luongo earned the Second Star of the night with 31 saves, and Knight was awarded the Third Star with his two-point effort.

The Panthers set their sights on the Ottawa Senators and a heretofore ludicrous sounding 11-game winning streak, Thursday night at 7:30 in enemy territory.
