According to CBS Sports Andy Strickland, veteran forward Brad Boyes will be joining the Florida Panthers for training camp in hopes of landing a job with the club.
Last year, Boyes signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders and enjoyed a nice bounce-back season, scoring 10 goals and 35 assists while playing in all 48 games. The 31-year-old decided to bypass attending camp with the Islanders this season and is heading south to Sunrise instead.
Boyes, who was drafted 24th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2000, has appeared in 606 NHL games and scored 168 times while adding 239 assists for a total of 407 points. He scored a career-high 43 goals for St. Louis in 2007-08 and followed that up with a career-best 72 points for the Blues the following season.
The Panthers are thin at the right wing position and could probably use more of a veteran presence, so a solid camp for Boyes could easily lead to a contract. If Boyes can come close to equaling his numbers from last year, or better yet, turn back the clock to his scoring prime then this could be a pretty sweet move by Tallon, Inc.
