Rampage take three points from Wolves in the Windy City

The San Antonio Rampage rolled into Rosemont, IL for games six and seven of their annual Rodeo Road trip and left town with three out of a possible four points.

Wolves 3, Rampage 2 (OT)

Pat Cannone scored with 29 seconds remaining in overtime to give host Chicago a 3-2 win over the Silver and Black. Wade Megan scored his first AHL goal of the season unassisted at 2:40 of the first period. The Wolves tied the game later in the frame when Magnus Paajarvi set up Jeremy Welsh. Shane Harper struck early in the second, with Paajarvi and Cannone combining on the assists, to put Chicago up by one. The Rampage quickly rallied to even things up on Garrett Wilson‘s power play goal 62 seconds later. Bobby Butler and Brett Olson drew the helpers on Wilson’s eighteenth of the season. Dan Ellis was the hard-luck loser, finishing with 27 saves. Jordan Binnington turned aside 31 of 33 shots to post the win for the Wolves.

Rampage 5, Wolves 2

The second game in as many days between the two teams saw the Rampage spank the Wolves by a 5-2 count. Chicago opened the scoring on a first period goal from Brent Sopel, his first of the season. The Silver and Black broke the game open with three goals in the second period. Connor Brickley tallied at 7:04 from Logan Shaw and Jesse Blacker with San Antonio on a power play. Bobby Butler bagged another power-play marker 1:59 later, with the assists going to Mackenzie Weegar and Corban Knight. Butler notched his second goal in a 1:22 span, from Brett Olson, to make it 3-1, Rampage. Mark Mancari fired home the Silver and Black’s third power-play goal of the game at 12:36 of the final frame. Brickley and Blake Parlett collected the helpers on Mancari’s tenth. Shane Harper got one back for Chicago later in the period before Shaw iced the game with an unassisted empty-netter. Michael Houser made 21 saves to get the win while Jordan Binnington took the loss, stopping 21 of 25 shots before giving way to Matt Climie, who saved the only shot he faced in relief.

The Silver and Black (30-18-5-0) are off until this weekend when they face the Barons in Oklahoma City on Friday and Saturday night.
