San Antonio Rampage split a pair with the Iowa Wild

The San Antonio Rampage kicked off a four-game road trip in Des Moines with two games against the Iowa Wild. Iowa took the first meeting on Thursday by a 4-1 count. The Silver and Black bounced back a day later with a 3-0 shutout victory.

Wild 4, Rampage 1

In Thursday’s opener, the Wild broke a 1-1 tie with three third period goals to post a 4-1 win over the Rampage. After a scoreless opening period, Brett Sutter scored 24 seconds into the second from Matt Dumba and Danny Syvret. San Antonio tied the game a few minutes later on Ryan Martindale‘s unassisted shorthanded tally. In the third, Michael Keranen bagged a power-play goal at 5:42 to put the Wild ahead for good. Sutter scored again late in the frame to make it 3-1 and Brady Brassart completed the scoring with an empty-net goal. John Curry made 33 saves to get the win, while Michael Houser finished with 16 stops for the Rampage.

Rampage 3, Wild 0

Dan Ellis got the start for San Antonio on Friday and turned aside 20 shots to lead the Rampage to a 3-0 win. Itwas the vetrean keeper’s second shutout of the season. Connor Brickley scored his eighth of the campaign at 11:29 of the first from Mark Mancari and Drew Shore. Defenseman Mackenzie Weegar notched his first professional goal early in the second, with Rocco Grimaldi picking up the lone assist. Bobby Butler scored unassisted in the third, his team-leading eleventh, to provide the Rampage’s final goal.

The Silver and Black will head to Charlotte for Friday and Sunday games against the Checkers.
