Rampage blanked by Utica, beat Oklahoma City again in week two action

Week Two of AHL action saw the San Antonio Rampage get shutout at home 3-0 by the Utica Comets, but rebound a day later with a 5-4 road win over the Oklahoma City Barons to run their record to 3-1.

On Friday, the Utica Comets came calling to the AT&T Center and left town with a 3-0 win. Former Panther Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves to post the shutout. The Comets got goals from Brendan Gaunce, Alex Biega, and Carter Bancks. Gaunce and Bancks also picked up helpers. Dan Ellis stopped 21 of the 24 he faced, dropping his record to 1-1. Bobby Butler and Rocco Grimaldi led the Rampage with 3 shots on goal apiece.

The Silver and Black traveled to Oklahoma City for their first road game and second meeting of the season with the Barons on Saturday. San Antonio roared back from a 3-0 deficit to capture a 5-4 decision. The Barons jumped ahead on a pair of goals from Jason Williams and another from defender Oscar Klefbom. Veteran Shane O’Brien got the Rampage on the board with a second period tally set up by Vincent Trocheck. Trocheck scored 18 seconds later from Bobby Butler to pull San Antonio within a goal. Iiro Pakarinen scored later in the frame to put the Barons up 4-2. Connor Brickley netted a huge goal, from Logan Shaw and Trocheck, with just 2 seconds left in the middle frame. In the third period, San Antonio scored twice on the power play to get the win. Ryan Martindale tallied at the 5:24 mark, from Drew Shore and O’Brien, to tie the game. Shore and Steven Kampfer combined to set up John McFarland for the winner at 15:36. Michael Houser made 22 stops to get the win, while Laurent Brossoit turned aside 25 shots in a losing effort for the Barons.

The Rampage will visit Utica tonight, before playing a weekend set with the Hamilton Bulldogs at FirstOntario Centre.
