Lockout-proof: Saveology Iceplex to host nine FAU Owls games in 2012-13

Whether the NHL and PA decide to go the adult route by hammering down a new collective bargaining agreement by September 15 remains to be seen (and it ain’t looking good less than two weeks out), folks in the area can still get their fix of live competitive ACHA hockey right off the Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs.

In addition to its many varied roles, Saveology Iceplex serves not only as the Panthers’ official practice and training facility but as home to Florida Atlantic University’s American Collegiate Hockey Association Division III team.

As with all clubs in the ACHA, whose stated purpose is to “support the growth of collegiate hockey programs nationwide”, the Owls are at present a non-varsity program but one which has seen tremendous growth and recognition in recent years, much of which can be attributed to the efforts of former Panthers wing Peter Worrell as the team’s current head coach. Yeah, this guy.

If we indeed find ourselves as victims of a Bettman/Fehr Nuclear Option, FAU’s Owls are an excellent local alternative in an outstanding building. 2012-13 home dates below:
