Berra posts third shutout in Thunderbirds 4-0 win over Binghamton

Veteran goaltender Reto Berra made 31 saves to lead the Springfield Thunderbirds to 4-0 road win over the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night.

The shutout was the third of the season for Berra, who is tied with Toronto’s Antoine Bibeau for the AHL lead in that department.

Tim Bozon and Paul Thompson scored even-strength goals 3:01 apart in the first period to stake the Thunderbirds to a 2-0 lead.

Both of the goals were set up by the defense duo of Brent Regner and Jakub Kindl.

MacKenzie Weegar lit the lamp at the 11:16 mark of the second period to put Springfield up by three. Drawing the helpers on Weegar’s third were Ryan Horvat and Anthony Greco.

Horvat completed the scoring with an empty-net goal with 3:35 left in the game. Matt Leitner and Kindl collected the assists.

Binghamton’s Matt O’Connor made 20 saves in a losing effort.

The Thunderbirds return home to face the Rochester Americans today.
