Sound Tigers roar to 5-1 win over Thunderbirds

The Springfield Thunderbird were routed 5-1 by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Friday night AHL action at MassMutual Center.

A couple of former Florida Panthers did the most damage. Bracken Kearns scored a goal and added two assists and long-time NHLer Steve Bernier scored a goal and an assist.

Carter Verhaeghe opened the scoring in the first period and Kellen Jones and Michael Dal Colle tallied in the final frame for Bridgeport.

Logan Shaw ended Christopher Gibson’s shutout bid with 2:49 left in regulation. The goal was Shaw’s first with the assists going to captain Brent Regner and Rihards Bukarts.

Reto Berra suffered his first loss of the season, finishing with 25 saves.

Springfield (3-2) will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight at 7:05 p.m. They will visit Bridgeport on Sunday for an afternoon rematch with the Sound Tigers.
