Thunderbirds drop games to Phantoms and Senators

After dropping a tough 3-2 overtime decision to the Hershey Bears on Friday night, the Springfield Thunderbirds lost back-to-back games to the Lehigh Valley and Bridgeport Sound Tigers to fall to 5-4-1 on the season.

Phantoms 6, Thunderbirds 4

Lehigh Valley got third period goals from Greg Carey, Taylor Leier, Colin McDonald and Chris Connor (ENG) to erase a two-goal deficit en route to a 6-4 win on home ice. Springfield’s Logan Shaw opened the scoring at 17:47 of the first period with the lone assist going to Michael Downing. Jakub Kindl scored his first of the season, shorthanded, from Juho Lammikko, 4:26 into the second to put the T-Birds up by two. Carey (4:43) and Derick Martel (10:04) lit the lamp to bring the Phantoms even. Paul Thompson bagged his third of the year, from Brent Regner and Chase Balisy, to put Springfield back on top at 15:23. Tim Bozon scored the final Thunderbirds goal of the game with 2:33 left in the middle frame. The assists on Bozon’s first went to Rihards Bukarts and Sena Acolatse. Reto Berra took the loss, finishing with 27 saves on 32 shots. Anthony Stolarz made 40 stop to post the win for Lehigh Valley.

Senators 2, Thunderbirds 1

Chris Driedger made 21 saves to lead Binghamton to a 2-1 win at MassMutual Center. Senators forward Mike Blunden scored the game’s first goal at the 8:20 mark of the first period. Rookie Ian McCoshen notched his second of the season from Dryden Hunt and Paul Thompson at 10:06 of the second to tie the game. Max McCormick beat Mike McKenna for the game-winner with 4:04 remaining in regulation with Phil Varone drawing the only helper. McKenna finished with 27 stops for the T-Birds.
