McKegg pots two in Thunderbids 3-1 win over Baby Sens

The Springfield Thunderbirds opened a busy weekend with a 3-1 home ice victory over the Binghamton Senators.

Greg McKegg scored twice and Reto Berra made 35 stops to lead the Thunderbirds to their second straight win.

Jared McCann opened the scoring with his third of the season 13:32 into the second period. Assists on the goal went to McKegg and defenseman Sena Acolatse.

McKegg notched his first as a T-Bird with 14 seconds left in the frame, from Thomas Schemitsch and Mike Sgarbossa, to put Springfield up by two.

Binghamton’s Kyle Flanagan broke up Berra’s shutout bid with 4:29 left in regulation, with the lone assist going to Patrick Sieloff.

Chase Balisy and Sgarbossa combine to set up McKegg for the empty-net clincher with five seconds left on the clock.

Matt O’Connor turned aside 17 shots and took the loss for the Senators.

Springfield (11-9-3-2) hits the road for games in Wilkes-Barre and Hershey to finish the weekend slate.
