Former Panther Steve Montador Dead At 35

I’m truly sorry to report the passing of former Panther defenseman Steve Montador. He was found dead by a female acquaintance and reported to the police at approximately 2:00 AM on Sunday morning.

Montador, a former NHL defenseman for the Calgary Flames, the Florida Panthers, the Anaheim Ducks, the Boston Bruins, the Buffalo Sabres and the Chicago Blackhawks had played in a total of 571 NHL games, and was most recently with the Zagreb Medvescak in the KHL. He totaled three assists in 11 games for them last season.

The native of Vancouver, British Columbia last played in the NHL with Chicago in 2011-12 before suffering a season-ending concussion. Over his 10 year NHL career, he totaled 33 goals, 98 assists, and 807 penalty minutes. More on his passing can be found here at Second City Hockey.

The death is being treated as a sudden death investigation as opposed to a criminal investigation, according to Peel Regional Constable Fiona Thivierge.
