The last day of the weekend remains sweet as we continue to bask in the afterglow of the Florida Panthers huge 5-4 double-overtime win over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Friday night. Thank you, Brad Marchand! This series looks like another epic in the making as the first two games went to overtime. That’s the first time that’s happened since 2015. Sam Bennett, who has lit the lamp three times in the series, leads the NHL with 13 goals. Connor McDavid is the points leader with 31. Can’t wait until Monday.
On Saturday, Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carberry was announced as the winner of the Jack Adams Award which is given to the top coach in the NHL as voted on by the National Broadcasters’ Association.
In the AHL, the Charlotte Checkers continue to wait for an opponent in the Calder Cup Final. On Friday, the Texas Stars extended the Western Conference Final by beating the Abbotsford Canucks 2-1 in overtime at H-E-B Center in Cedar Park. Curtis McKenzie scored the game-winning goal 2:09 into the fourth period and goaltender Magnus Hellberg made 30 saves. Game 6 will be played tonight in Abbotsford.
