Sunday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Columbus Blue Jackets handed the Tampa Bay Lighting its first loss of the season last night with a 5-2 win at Nationwide Arena. That the leaves the Florida Panthers, along with the Dallas Stars, as one of two undefeated left in the National Hockey League.

Florida will meet the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night in Columbus.

With no real games to play, the Cats held another scrimmage yesterday.

Carter Verhaeghe scored twice for the Red team, once in regulation and once in overtime.

Aaron Ekblad scored the other goal for Red in regulation and then switched over and scored the only goal for the Blue team in overtime.

Alexander Wennberg also scored for the Red team in overtime.

Chris Driedger was in net for the winning Red team while Sergei Bobrovsky took the loss for Blue.

College Cats

Spencer Knight stopped 37 of 39 shots in Boston College’s 4-2 win over Connecticut. Knight is now 8-0-1 with a 1.87 GAA, .945 save percentage and 2 shutouts.

Logan Hutsko had three shots on goal and finished with an even rating for the Eagles.

Connecticut defenseman Carter Berger picked up his fifth assist of the season in the loss. He finished the game with two shots on goal, a -1 rating and 2 PIM.

Ty Smilanic had three shots on goal, blocked a shot and finished with an even rating in Quinnipiac’s 1-1 overtime tie with Clarkson. Smilanic, a freshman, is still second in the nation, tied with four others, with 10 goals.

Zachary Uens had two shots on goal, blocked one shot and finished with a +1 rating in Merrimack’s 2-2 overtime tie with New Hampshire.

Mike Benning had two shots on goal and finished with an even rating in Denver’s 4-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha.

Euro Cats

Emil Heieneman had one shot on goal, logged 7:50 TOI and finished with a +1 rating in Leksands IF’s 3-2 loss to Farjestad in action from the Swedish Hockey League.

Maxim Mamin logged 17:20 TOI, registered two shots on goal and finished with an even rating in CSKA Moscow’s 3-1 loss to Jokerit in the KHL
