Report: Florida Panthers sign Thomas Schemitsch to entry-level contract

According to a report from the Miami Herald’s George Richards, the Florida Panthers have signed defenseman Thomas Schemitsch to an entry-level contract and assigned him to the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds.

The Cats selected Schemitsch in the third round (88th overall) of the 2015 Entry Draft.

The move puts the Panthers’ roster at 25 (not counting injured Nick Bjugstad), meaning the club will have to make two more cuts sometime after tomorrow’s preseason game against the New Jersey Devils.

The 23-man roster for opening night must be turned into the league by 5 p.m. on October 11.

Twitter scuttlebutt has Shane Harper, Paul Thompson and Ian McCoshen as the three players fighting for those final two spots.
