Thursday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers GameDay Forum

We have not seen the Florida Panthers since Sunday’s shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. They have been a on nice little sabbatical from game action in what has been a light week in general across the NHL. Hopefully, the Panthers use this downtime to hone the deficiencies in their game, especially the sputtering power play. The Cats are 28th in the league in that regard, only converting 9.8% of their man-advantage chances so far this season.

The Panthers will meet the St. Louis Blues tomorrow night to finish off a frustrating homestand. Florida will need to post a victory to garner a .500 record over the sextet of games. The Cats will take a quick trip to the nation’s capital for Saturday’s tilt against the Washington Capitals before returning home to face Edmonton on Tuesday. After the game against the Oilers, Florida will be on the road for seven of their next eight games, so the team is going to have to come up with a formula that generates more wins pronto or this season will soon be reduced to one of simply playing out the string and keeping an eye on how the younglings progress.

Listen all of y’all it’s a Caterwaul, so feel free to chime in with something Panthers-related or with anything else about the NHL in general. It’s been a bit on the quiet side here with our team off for this spell. I’ll leave you with this little gem from Logan Couture of the San Jose Sharks after last night’s overtime loss to the Kings: “We could have played in Florida tonight and probably lost that game, too.” Ouch
