Thursday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Florida Panthers prospect Devon Levi went the distance for Canada and he posted a 23-save shutout in a 1-0 exhibition win over Russia at the World Junior Championship in Edmonton last night. Levi was named player-of-the-game for Canada for his effort.

The seventh round, 2020 draft choice of the Cats was named Canada’s starter by head coach Andre Tourigny yesterday morning, getting the nod over Dylan Garland and Tyler Gauthier, and it looks like he made the right decision.

Levi, a freshman at Northeastern University, will be between the pipes when Canada faces Germany on Saturday to open group play.

Sophomore defenseman Carter Berger registered one shot on goal, took an interference minor that resulted in a power-play goal, and finished with an even rating in Connecticut’s 6-2 loss to Massachusetts.

Freshman forward Ty Smilanic blocked a shot in Quinnipiac’s 3-0 shutout win over Holy Cross. Smilanic has three points (2G/1A) in six games for the Bobcats.

In the KHL, Emil Djuse ha one shot on goal, two blocks, logged 17:10 TOI and finished with an even rating in Spartak Moscow’s 5-3 win over Vityaz.
