The Florida Panthers have agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contracts with defenseman Tobias Björnfot and forward Wilmer Skoog. Both players wereestricted free agents.
Björnfot suited up in 14 regular season games with the Panthers in 2024-25. He did not produce any points. registered a total of ten shots on goal, and went minus-three with 2 penalty minutes.
In 50 games with the Charlotte Checkers, he scored three goals and added 15 assists. He appeared in 14 of Charlotte’s 18 postseason games and finished the Calder Cup Playoffs with two goals and five assists.
The Cats claimed Björnfot after he was waived by the Vegas Golden Knights on March 8, 2024. He made his debut with Florida fifteen days later in a 4-3 shootout loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Björnfot was taken 19th overall in 2019 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. In addition to playing 15 games with the Panthers, he appeared in 117 games with the Kings and just two for the Golden Knights, who claimed him off waivers on January 3, 2024.
The 24-year-old Swede also has 159 games of AHL experience.
Skoog, 26, produced nine goals and 15 assists in 72 games for the Checkers last season. A bit of downturn offensively after he lit the lamp 22 times and finished with 31 points as an AHL rookie in 2023-24.
In the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs, Skoog appeared in all 18 of Charlotte’s games and scored four goals and three assists.
Prior to turning professional, Skoog spent four years with the Boston University Terriers, where he amassed 40 goals and 76 points in 103 NCAA games. He earned a spot on the Hockey East Second All-Star Team as a junior and the Third All-Star Team as a senior.
He also has 20 ECHL games to credit. He scored twice and collected six assists for the Florida Everblades in 2023-24.
