Trade: Panthers acquire Zimmerman; Paetsch to Canucks
The Vancouver Pipeline remains healthy, as Florida has sent D Nathan Paetsch - signed to a one-year deal earlier this summer - to the Canucks for D Sean Zimmerman.
Zimmerman, a 2005 6th-round selection of the New Jersey Devils, joins the Panthers as his fourth organization in just over two years. He's slated to earn $500,000 at the NHL level, which in all likelyhood, won't be happening a whole lot.
Paetsch played two exhibition games, notching 2 points (1g), and was penciled into Sunday's season opener as recently as last night. Expect a Keaton Ellerby recall from Rochester very soon.
Personally, yeah...my head's spinning: two days, two deals with Vancouver. Zimmerman is younger, bigger, and cheaper than Paetsch, so that's something.
The Panthers needed a spot for Ellerby, and found a way to accomplish that goal. Come to think of it, the prospect of saving $460,000 on an AHL player might have been involved as well. Thoughts?
