Veteran G Manny Legace signs PTO with Rampage

Not sure what this development says about the Panthers, but with Scott Clemmensen ‘s injury forcing Jacob Markstrom into backup duties for Jose Theodore, the Cats were in the market for a goaltender anyway to fill the void in San Antonio.

Legace – an 8th round selection of the Whalers in ’93 – has played with four clubs over an 11-year NHL career, most recently for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2009-10. A Stanley Cup winner with the Red Wings in 2002, Legace was on a tryout with the Canucks until being cut a week ago. Said Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault:

We gave him the opportunity to stay with us and practice, but he decided to see if there was something else out there. He did a good job and I’m hoping this will maybe permit him to come back in the league.

The ‘Nucks were a ridiculous longshot in any case, as Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider likely – and we’re only guessing here – have the 1-2 slots wrapped up.

This signing places firm pressure on Rampage netminder Tyler Plante to nail down the starting role.
