Vokoun, Panthers stone Thrashers 1-0

Florida’s defense allowed netminder Tomas Vokoun to see all 27 shots thrown his way (14 in the third) by an Atlanta club whose energy level appeared to increase as the night wore on.

The last minute was a frantic scramble, with the Thrashers on a power play and Johan Hedberg riding the pine; Atlanta redefined aggressive play, but Bryan McCabe‘s defense corps was up to the dare as drifting puck ultimately came to Vokoun, who cleared it harmlessly aside. Moments later he was celebrating his 36th career shutout.

Editor’s note: The word “shutout” crossed my mind rather late in this one; typically I inadvertantly curse the Cats early in first periods.

Gregory Campbell (in a strong performance) scored his second goal of the year at 7:18 of the second frame, assisted by Rostislav Olesz (originally credited to Kamil Kreps), and defenseman Jason Garrison (for the first point of his NHL career).

Cory Stillman led the Cats with 4 SOG, while Dennis Seidenberg‘s 25:31 paced Florida’s skaters.
