Wednesday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Florida Panthers prospect Ty Smilanic scored his first NCAA goal last night in Quinnipiac’s 2-1 overtime win over Sacred Heart.

Smilanic, the 74th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, opened the scoring 7:04 into the first period with this beautiful individual effort for the host Bobcats, who are now 2-0 to start the sesson.

The freshman forward finished the game with three shots on goal, a roughing minor, and an even rating.

Aleksi Heponiemi and MODO Hockey will take on Kristianstads IK today in action from Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan. The 21-year-old Heponiemi leads MODO in scoring with 14 points in 16 games.

Alec Raushauser and DVTK Polar Bears will host HC 07 Detva in action from Slovkia’s Tipos Extraliga. Rauhauser has 7 points in 13 games, which is second-highest among the club’s defensemen.

Finland’s Liiga returns from a two-week slumber due to covid-19 restrictions with today’s tilt between TPS and Pelicans. No Panthers will be involved in that game, but on Friday Henrik Borgstrom and HIFK will take on SaiPa and Santtu Kinnunen and Tappara will face TPS before the league takes an already scheduled break with play resuming on December 27.
