Checked the Panthers’ individual scoring stats recently? How about in the last month? Thanks to understandable frustration, we’ve gingerly beaten up just about every name on the roster of late, watching some key pieces porpoise between game-day hero through down-and-out goat status, lending significant credence to the “inconsistency” label conventional wisdom has bestowed upon this club. So many reasons, so little time.
Recognizing the rebuild currently underway, and the potential for address changes such a situation provides, this would be a particularly poor period for a Florida Panther to find himself entrenched in an ugly, brutal scoring slump.
Year number three has not been overly kind to forward Michael Frolik: twice a 21-goal scorer, his 8 markers in 2010-11 should be considered a blessing when considering none of those goals were scored after December 17th.
Correct: the Other Kid from Kladno has travelled a rocky stretch of 19 games without a goal; over the same period he’s collected 7 assists, none since January 5th against Atlanta. That equates to an eleven-game pointless streak heading into the All Star break. Further, five of the losses over that stretch were by one goal.
Dude’s gotta shake it off, and soon: not only is a postseason berth slipping out of realistic reach – the fortunes of which he alone may change – but there’s also the little issue of a contract year…
