Florida Panthers prospects hold off Nashville Predators for 3-1 win

The Florida Panthers rookie camp roster picked up their second straight victory in the four-team prospects tournament in Antioch, TN with a 3-1 victory over the Nashville Predators Sunday night.

Sam Brittain got the start again and stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced during the first 40 minutes. Clarke Saunders made 11 third period saves to post the win.

After a scoreless first period, Logan Shaw beat former Cats’ prospect Rob Madore to open the scoring at the 5:24 mark of the second frame. First overall draft pick Aaron Ekblad picked up the only helper on the goal.

Colton Sissons tied the game later in the period with the assist going to Filip Forsberg.

Vincent Trocheck scored an unassisted goal midway through the third period to give Florida the lead back before Steven Hodges clinched the game with 56 seconds left with an empty-netter. Hodges also scored in Saturday’s win over Boston.

The Predators out-shot the Panthers 31-22. Neither team was able to convert on a power play, with Nashville going 0 for 11, while the Cats went 0 for 8.

The 2-0 Panthers finish off the tournament with a game on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
