Florida Panthers sign G prospect Sam Brittain and UFA D Blake Parlett

The Florida Panthers announced the signings of University of Denver goaltender Sam Brittain, to an entry-level contract, and free-agent defenseman Blake Parlett to a one-year, two-way deal.

Florida selected Brittain in the fourth-round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons with the Pioneers, posting a 51-34-11 record. The Calgary native was named the 2014 NCHC Goaltender of the Year and was a finalist for the Mike Richter Award.

Parlett is a 25-year-old blueliner who has spent the majority of the last four years toiling in the American Hockey League after finishing his days in the OHL as an overage skater for the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. Last season, he suited up for both the Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins. In 217 career AHL games, Parlett has scored 18 goals, 63 assists, and racked up 197 PIM.

Look for both players to be members of the San Antonio Rampage next season, with Brittain perhaps stepping into Jacob Markstrom‘s old shoes as the “goaltender of the future.”
