The Charlotte Checkers snapped a season-long, five-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack to end its four-game road trip on a bit of a positive note.

After Hartford jumped out to an early lead on Karl Henriksson’s goal at 8:18, Cameron Morrison potted a rebound to knot the score 3:21 later with his second of the season from Alexander True and Matt Kiersted.

Checkers leading scorer Lucas Carlsson intercepted a clearing attempt and lit the lamp unassisted with a slapper to give the visitors the lead at the 13:30 mark.

Henriksson drew the lone assist on Brett Berard’s shorthanded goal as the Wolf Pack forged a 2-2 tie with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Gerry Mayhew bagged the game-winning goal at 14:51 when he converted a centering feed from Patrick Khodorenko. Kiersted collected the secondary helper for his second point of the night.

With Hartford keeper Dylan Garand off for an extra attacker, Rasmus Aslund dotted the “i” in win with the clinching empty-netter with 1:28 left on the clock.

Spencer Knight stopped 19 of 21 shots to pick up his 14th win of the season. The victory was the 500th in the history of the franchise.

The fifth place Checkers (21-18-4) will return home to host the Providence Bruins in a Friday-Saturday back-to-back this weekend.
