Panthers GM Dale Tallon re-ups for additional three years with club

Florida Panthers vice president and GM Dale Tallon has evidently earned a three-year stay with the organization. Via a source close to the negotiations per the Miami Herald:

“General manager Dale Tallon is in the final year of his current contract with the Panthers, but it appears that will soon change. According to a source within the organization, Tallon and the team agreed in principal to a three-year contract extension on Thursday evening. Tallon, 65, came to the Panthers in 2010 after he build the Chicago Blackhawks into an eventual Stanley Cup champion. Since joining the Panthers, Tallon has completely remade the roster with only defenseman Dmitry Kulikov being part of the organization when Tallon came on board.”

We could be so sarcastic – and end up on the winning end of it, because impatient folks out there actually exist who somewhat incredibly believe Tallon has not delivered the goods – regarding the man’s efforts in win after win after win among acquiring young talent, but Tallon’s resume has few equals. In his five years with the Cats, he drafted current players Erik Gudbranson, Nick Bjugstad, Quinton Howden, Alex Petrovic, Jonathan Huberdeau, Vincent Trocheck, Aleksander Barkov & some kid who goes by the name of Aaron Ekblad. Perhaps you’ve heard of Sam Brittain, Rocco Grimaldi, Logan Shaw, Kyle Rau, Michael Matheson, Ian McCoshen or MacKenzie Weegar? All Tallon, Inc. kids. As are Jayce Hawryluk, Juho Lammikko, Lawson Crouse & Denis Malgin. And a few very notable others but space is limited.

Other than that short list, not much to kick back on. And we’re not even bringing up the trade/FA moves (cough-Jagr-cough).

Good on the Panthers for doing THE OBVIOUS.

Tallon contract is…

Too short: he’s created what is now becoming a world-class assemblage of talent 41
Too long: what happened to the five-year blueprint? Want my 6 months back! 1
Just right: DT is delivering the goods; steady and straight. 114
