Friday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Offseason Open Forum

Well, we’ve made it through another week of the off-season.

In case you missed it, the Florida Panthers re-signed restricted free agent defenseman MacKenzie Weegar yesterday. Weegar was Florida’s last player needing a new contract.

The St. Louis Blues signed unrestricted free agent Nate Prosser to a two-year, two-way deal. Interestingly, this is the second time the Blues have signed the defenseman, who has played for the Minnesota Wild his entire career.

On July 21, 2014, after four seasons with the Minnesota organization, Prosser left as a free agent to sign a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis. Prosser did not win a spot on the Blues roster during training camp for the 2014-15 NHL season and was placed on waivers. On October 2, 2014, Prosser was claimed by the Wild, the team he left as a free agent after the previous season.

In other news, Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher has retired. Fisher had 276 goals and 309 assists in 1,088 regular-season games during an NHL career that lasted 17 seasons. He had 23 goals and 28 assists in 134 career playoff games.
