Monday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Florida Panthers have the night off before opening a three-game road against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh on Tuesday. The Cats will have a 11 a.m. practice on Monday at the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs.

This weekend, the Springfield Thunderbirds (2-10-1) posted its second win of the season with a 5-3 decision over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday. Curtis Valk (4.5) scored twice, and Anthony Greco (3), Jayce Hawryluk (2), and Michael Downing (1) also lit the lamp. Henrik Haapala had three assists (3,4,5), Dryden Hunt had two (2,3), and Juho Lammikko (7) and Alexandre Grenier (7) each had one helper. Samuel Montembeault made 38 saves to pick up his first win in the AHL.

On Saturday, the Thunderbirds were beaten 3-2 by the host Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Harri Sateri took the loss to fall to 0-4 on the season. Greco (4) and Grenier (2) scored the goals, while Denis Malgin (2), Chase Balisy (1), and Tim Erixon (2) picked up assists.

Hartford beat visiting Springfield 4-2 on Sunday. Malgin (1) and Greco (5) scored the goals. Grenier (8), Greco (2), Balisy (2), and Erixon (3) had the helpers. Montembeault made 30 saves and his record fall to 1-6.
