Memorial Cup: Chris Clapperton scores in Rimouski’s shutout win over Quebec

Michael Joly scored a goal and added three assists and Philippe Desrosiers made 27 saves to lead the Rimouski Oceanic to a 4-0 victory over the Quebec Remparts at the 2015 Mastercard Memorial Cup last night.

The decision left Rimouski, Quebec and Kelowna all with 1-2 round-robin records, forcing a tiebreaker. The Rockets won the breaker to claim second place and a spot in the Friday’s semifinal game. The Oceanic and Remparts will meet again tonight at 7:30 pm for the other semifinal spot. Oshawa, who went 3-0, rests until Sunday’s title game.

Florida Panthers prospect Chris Clapperton scored a power-play goal in the second period to put Rimouski up 3-0. The goal was his second of the tournament, with the assists going to Frederik Gauthier and Joly. Clapperton finished the game with six shots on goal, one hit and a +1 rating.

Justin Samson and Alexis Loiseau scored the other goals for the Oceanic. Loiseau also added an assist on Joly’s strike with 55 seconds left in the first period.

Quebec starter Zachary Fucale took the loss, stopping 21 of 25 shots before giving way to Callum Booth, who made 17 saves.
