Thursday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Florida Panthers are off again today before facing the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals on Friday to conclude a brief two-game road trip.

Along with the Detroit Red Wings, Saturday night’s opponent, the Cats are one of two teams in the NHL still looking to post its first win of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Capitals warmed up for tomorrow night’s tilt with a 4-3 overtime win over the New York Rangers to raise their record to 3-2-1. Alex Ovechkin scored a pair of power-play markers and Matt Niskanen potted the winner 2:18 into the extra session.

In Atlantic Division action, the Calgary Flames did the Panthers a solid with a 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins. Unfortunately, the Montreal Canadiens continued its surprisingly hot start to the season with a 3-2 home ice win over the St. Louis Blues.

The Springfield Thunderbirds (2-0-0-2) will journey north of the border to play two games against the Laval Rocket at Place Bell on Friday and Saturday.
