News:

  • Francis Beauvillier had three assists in Rimouski Océanic’s 8-2 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs.
  • Corban Knight is second in the WCHA in scoring, tied for third in the NCAA. North Dakota’s assistant captain leads the team in powerplay points, plus/minus, and faceoff wins (and losses). He leads the NCAA in faceoff wins, with Blue Jackets prospect T. J. Tynan behind by 58.
  • Vincent Trocheck scored four goals in the Plymouth Whalers 5-2 win over the Brampton Battalion. Trocheck is fourth in the OHL in scoring, and has scored 30 points in his 13 games with the Whalers. Plymouth plays 15 more games this season, and at Trocheck’s pace, he could finish the campaign with 50 goals.
  • The Rampage went 1-1 this weekend, and are in a four-way tie with the Milwaukee Admirals, Peoria Rivermen, and Rockford IceHogs at 46 points. The Rochester Americans are currently the eighth seed at 53 points.
  • Defenseman Josh McFadden has been called up to San Antonio from Cincinnati. The next game is Friday against the Milwaukee Admirals.

Prospect of the Week:

Saturday saw Jacob Markstrom play in his 100th American Hockey League game; he was in net for the first of a two-game back-to-back series against the Charlotte Checkers. The Rampage won 3-2, with Markstrom stopping 29 shots on net (.935 Sv%), winning his 15th game of 2012-13 (2 shy of matching his AHL career high). In 31 games, he’s currently ninth in the AHL in save percentage, eighth in minutes, and third in saves. With Florida goaltenders currently 26th in 5-on-5 save percentage, “Alien” might get a well-deserved promotion soon.
